Prices are creeping up slowly

According to the Mosstat, in November, prices for goods and services in the capital rose by 0.3 percent – or, in the boring language of statistics, the consumer price index compared to October amounted to 100.3 percent. At the same time, food prices increased by 0.5 percent.

As is usually the case, prices for fruits, vegetables and greens fell at the end of the summer, and now they have gone up again. And sometimes strongly: fresh cucumbers, for example, have risen in price by 24.2 percent compared to October, and table beets – by 14 percent.

Potatoes cost us 2.4 percent more than last month, garlic 4 percent more and fresh tomatoes 6.4 percent more.

Bananas rose in price most of all, by 12.8 percent. Oranges became more expensive by 7.7 percent, apples – by 1.4.

From December 1, Rosselkhoznadzor allowed the import of apples from Moldova – we recall that the ban was introduced on August 15. In Moldovan apples, as well as grapes and plums, organisms were found that are considered quarantine for the member countries of the EAEU. However, after the ban was lifted, the Russian Horticultural Association sent a letter to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin with a request to restrict the import of Moldovan apples. The fact is that the record harvest of apples has been harvested in the country, but at the same time, the cost of Russian fruits is higher than that of Moldovan ones. Meanwhile, the gardeners of Moldova itself are full of anxiety: because of the blackout, fruit crops in storage facilities may be lost.

Other products also rose in price, though not much: eggs by 1.9 percent, boiled sausages by 1.5 percent, sausages and sausages by 1.3 percent, milk by 1.2 percent. An indispensable attribute of the festive New Year’s table – salmon caviar – has risen in price by 2.9 percent.

However, there is a small list of products, the price of which, on the contrary, has decreased. These are sugar – by 3.9 percent, lemons – by 2.4 percent, pears – by 2.1 percent, onions – by 1.7 percent.

According to the Mosstat, in November 2022, the cost of the conditional minimum set of food for a month in Moscow was 6,778.3 rubles. If we compare this figure with October 2022, it increased by 0.2 percent, and with December 2021 – by 4.8.

It has become more expensive to furnish the kitchen: for example, the price of a working kitchen table has increased by 3.4 percent, and the price of a wall-mounted wardrobe by 3 percent. Glassware rose by 2 percent.

But clothes have become cheaper. Women’s jeans – by 2.2 percent, and men’s cotton shorts – by 1.4.

Some drugs have risen in price: a package of 30 capsules of acipol – by 4.2 percent, Corvalol 25 ml – by 3.2 percent, midokalm 150 mg – by 2.4 percent.

Ergoferon fell in price by 2.6 percent, methyluracil ointment by 2.5 percent, iodine by 2.3 percent.

Air transport services have risen in price by 19.7 percent. Tire fitting will cost 4 percent more for car owners. Some funeral services have also risen in price – however, this is a seasonal phenomenon, in winter it is more difficult to dig the ground. Therefore, the price increased by 12.1 percent.

On the other hand, railway transport services increased by 5.5 percent. Banking and excursion services also became slightly cheaper – the first by 1.7 percent, the second by 0.4. And almost completely imperceptibly, by one tenth of a percent, the cost of rest in sanatoriums has fallen.
