Potential damage from fire at Ozon warehouse estimated at 10 billion rubles

Potential damage from a fire at Ozon warehouses in the Istra district of the Moscow region may exceed 10 billion rubles, Igor Yurgens, head of the All-Russian Union of Insurers (VSS), told Vedomosti.

“VSS estimates the potential damage from a fire at Ozon warehouses at over 10 billion rubles,” he said.

Yurgens also noted that the building and the contents of the burning Ozon warehouses are insured by insurance companies that are members of the All-Russian Union of Insurers in the amount of 17 billion rubles, including the building itself is insured for 6 billion rubles, the contents of the warehouse – for 11 billion rubles.

“Obviously this is one of the biggest losses in recent memory… companies have already started valuation and customer service,” he added.

Information about the fire at the Ozon warehouse near Istra was received by the Ministry of Emergency Situations this afternoon. The area of ​​ignition was initially about 20,000 square meters. m, 1000 people were evacuated from the building, clarified TASS. Later, the fire area increased to 50,000 “squares”, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.

According to the head of the city district of Istra Tatiana Vitusheva, the fire happened due to non-compliance with safety regulations.

Ozon reported that the goods stored in the fulfillment are currently hidden from the showcase on the marketplace. Sellers will receive compensation for damaged or lost items, and buyers will receive refunds for lost orders, Ozon promised.

According to preliminary data Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a total of 11 people were injured, two of them were hospitalized, nine more are receiving outpatient care. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 96 people and 30 pieces of equipment, including two Ka-32 helicopters, were involved in extinguishing the fire.
