Postponement of the immigration law: the government prefers to “consult”

It is only after, probably at the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023, that a bill will be presented. The person concerned specifies that he does so ” on demand “ of the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne.
Reframing a minister in too much of a hurry? This is what some in the majority want to believe. “He left too soon, too quickly! »observes a pillar of the presidential party, according to which Darmanin has not ” Not understood “ that the new composition of the Assembly “risked making him lose on all fronts”while he will find himself stuck between a right and an extreme right likely to judge the text “not firm enough”a left “upwind” and a majority “fractured”. This Renaissance deputy recalls that it is on sovereign subjects that Macronie is the most divided. But what was “manageable” during the first mandate, with an absolute majority, would be – according to this same source – much less so with a relative majority. “For Darmanin, it’s a setback”notes a government adviser, while the Minister of the Interior is forced to reconsider what he himself announced.
For Elisabeth Borne, faced with the ambitions of the heavyweights of her government, to whom the succession of Macron in five years is already giving wings, this postponement is a means of asserting her authority. The SOS-Racisme association hastened to read this announcement as “a crop” welcome from the Prime Minister. “Elisabeth Borne has left her mark on the parliamentary agenda, also rejoices the chairman of the law commission, Sacha Houlié (Renaissance), from the left wing of the majority. It is aligned with the three priorities of the French: purchasing power, environment and safety. This last subject is more important than immigration. »
