– Of course, everything was justified. We got such a well-built program, probably the best thing I have done in my creative life. In general, it was a serious, difficult year, including for the country and for the world. But we sang for an encore, and not out of spite, maybe that’s why I was accompanied by success throughout the country. In fact, the tour ended on April 30 with a concert in the Kremlin. But in fact, everything is just beginning. One wise woman who sings gave me a very correct attitude in life. She convinced me that after fifty there would be not fifty-one, but forty-nine. So now I’m basically forty-four. And this is a very cool incentive to be updated, inspired, fall in love, create.

– With the update, everything really happened. The new image and physical form became the occasion for the most incredible rumors …

– My current physical form is possible thanks to the efforts of the will, suffering and plastic surgery. Time takes its toll, and the desire to transform, to look beautiful is quite natural. And I’m also an artist and therefore I have to follow my form. And if there is no time to do fitness in the required volume, then there are masters who will bring my figure almost to the ideal. An artist should not hide operations. Today, he simply cannot do without them, as well as without a lawyer, a psychologist.

– The psychologist is now not superfluous not only for the artist. A lot of people get on their nerves. By the way, you have a reputation for being quick-tempered. Do you have to deal with this?

– Restless times really loosen the nervous system so much that it is very difficult to go out and sing. And they also try to ban you, label you, call you someone you are not. And at the same time, you are creating. Of course, the love of those who once became my audience also keeps afloat. They praise and criticize me. Some people like my current hair color, some don’t. Someone wants the old Kirkorov, and someone new. Cool when they talk about it. And more important are projects, songs that are always on my horizon. Last year, on our birthday, Anna Asti and I launched the song “Hobby”, now Lyusya Chebotina and I released “Queen”.

– Until recently, you were a man of the world, you could choose the people you wanted to work with, not paying attention to their passports. So it was with the show “I”, which was staged by the American Franco Dragone, so it was with the numbers for Eurovision, which were made with the Greek team, and you were called DreamTeam. Now such cooperation, to put it mildly, is problematic, if not impossible. Who helps in the new conditions?

– The team that made this show is working on the Mask project. And when I saw some numbers of the project, I immediately realized that they should put on my anniversary show, people with whom I have been friends for a long time, although we had not worked together before. I do have a DreamTeam for Eurovision, but it’s clear that we’re missing it this year. And now my DreamTeam is also in Russia.

– It happens that the concert changes a little during the tour. Some songs are added or thrown out, the staging of numbers is corrected. How similar are the first concerts of the anniversary tour to those that take place a year later?

– At recent concerts in St. Petersburg and Moscow, we almost completely updated the wardrobe. New songs were also added, among which a special place is occupied by “Today they praise, tomorrow they will dump.” The amazing story of the creation of the number for Engelbert Humperdinck’s song Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. My dad brought this record when I was still little, and, one might say, I learned to sing by listening to this great artist. With this song, I started my program “I am not Rafael” in 1994. On the stage was Pavel Ovsyannikov’s orchestra, where the now famous Seryozha Zhilin played the piano. I then sang Humperdinck, and Elvis Presley, and Julio Iglesias, and they shouted to me: “Atlantis,” come on.

– Now Can’t Take My Eyes Off You is the final of the show, and one of the biggest numbers came out of it …

– It’s no coincidence. When I sing this song, I put on a pink cape. She has history. In 1985, my father and I were in Paris. Dad was friends with Charles Aznavour, and he brought us to visit Dalida. She received us very hospitably and asked me: “Will you be an artist?” I hardly spoke either French or English, but I managed to say “Oui, Dalida”, I already knew then that I would be on stage. And so she leads me to her dressing room, where a pink cape catches my eye. I immediately recognized her, because I saw how she performed in it. We talked, had lunch, time to say goodbye, and she suddenly brings this cape. She says that she saw how much I liked her, she herself will not wear it again, because she only wears concert costumes once, she feels that I will be an artist, and wants to give it to me as a memory of our meeting so that she inspires me. So it’s not just some fluff and feathers, but fluff and feathers with history!

– Museum item. It’s amazing that it hasn’t disappeared in your gigantic concert wardrobe for more than thirty years…

– I remembered this cape when on tour we were thinking about a new ending. And it turned out that my mother saved it. Artashez did a little shamanism over it, updated it. And when I go to the final in this raincoat (now pink is my favorite color), I get the feeling that Dalida and my mother are looking down on me. It’s so inspiring. No matter how tired and broken I may be, I immediately seem to be renewed, crazy energy appears. At this moment, I understand that the cosmic connection exists. Dalida has been gone for a long time, two years after we met, she committed suicide. She was incredibly happy on stage and just as unhappy in life. But her pink wonder somehow survived. Probably, at this moment, Dalida moves into me, giving me strength and a desire to change, to become different.

– Clothes matter a lot in the show, as does the speed at which you change them…

– My grandmother, a circus actress, took me to the circus, hence the love for tricks and fast dressing. These attractions accompany my shows all the time, and this time we broke our own records. Sometimes it takes mere seconds to change costumes. People just don’t understand how it happens, and I don’t always understand how I manage to shed these skins so quickly.

– Your tours, as a rule, are distinguished by a rather complex technical stuffing and a large number of participants. Is it difficult to make money on such expensive concerts to produce?

– I am grateful to every viewer who brought money in his beak to create a new show. I already have plans for next year, and I will definitely surprise everyone on my next birthday with an incredible project. I have never been able to save, I can only earn and invest. I bathe in the luxury of my stage life, and when I come home, I find the usual home comfort and warmth. And today I am not alone. My heart is occupied not only by the viewer, but also by the person for whom I want to live and create…

He made beautiful friends… Why do the closest ones leave so early?! Maybe to become our guardian angels… Now, going on stage, dressed in outfits, in stage images, I will always consult with him, as, in fact, I did during his lifetime. Each of my shows always had something from Valentine – or some kind of jacket, or an image, or even a whole show, as it was on my premiere program “I’m not Raphael”. We were friends for almost 35 years, he dressed me on my first TV program “Morning Mail” back in 1987, and his wife Marina did my make-up. Mashenka now remains a friend for both – for herself and for Valya. His memory will forever remain in my heart and soul.
