Dmitry Pevtsov, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Culture, commented on the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the government to popularize the heroes of Russian history and folklore. The artist and deputy said that such heroes should be Ilya Muromets and Alexander Nevsky, as well as other great commanders.
“This is a completely brilliant initiative of the president,” Pevtsov said. “I fully support it.” “We should not be surrounded by foreign inscriptions on clothes, but should be surrounded by our epic, folklore heroes,” the parliamentarian believes.
As an example, he cited Ilya Muromets, who, according to Pevtsov, is “both epic, and folklore, and real.” Alexander Nevsky and a number of other great commanders should also be depicted on clothes. “Because this is our great story,” Pevtsov said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to take measures to popularize the heroes of Russian history and folklore, including, among other things, the use of their images on souvenirs, according to the Kremlin website. The list of instructions was adopted following the meeting of the head of state with historians and representatives of traditional religions.
