Veterinarians are facing a shortage of foreign pet vaccines. In particular, drugs for cats have almost run out, Alexander Tkachev-Kuzmin, vice president of the Association of Practicing Veterinarians, told Vedomosti.
The shortage of immunobiological preparations for cats and dogs is also confirmed by the Executive Director of the Association of Veterinary Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (AVPHARM) Semyon Zhavoronkov. His organization represents the interests of international companies MSD Animal Health, Elanco, Boehringer Ingelheim and Zoetis. The most critical situation has developed with the vaccines of the two largest manufacturers – MSD Animal Health (Nobivak, Trikat, Rabies) and Boehringer Ingelheim (Eurikan, Purevax), Olga Ovsyannikova, General Director of the Vetunion veterinary network (part of the Invitro group), said. According to her, the company’s customers are looking for their drugs, while now there are only a few dozen doses of various types of vaccines in stock, and distributors do not give forecasts for the supply.
After the end of the coronavirus pandemic and the lifting of restrictions on tourist travel, such vaccines have become in demand in many countries, the owner of a veterinary clinic explains the reason for the shortage. According to him, due to the high demand abroad, the supply of such drugs to Russia was carried out on a residual basis.
