Peskov: When supplying oil, Russia will proceed from contacts with counterparties in India, and not media reports

Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov commented on the Bloomberg publication that the Indian authorities decided not to violate anti-Russian sanctions, including the ceiling on oil prices. Mr. Peskov said that Russia, in matters of oil cooperation with India, would proceed not from news reports, but from contacts with contractors.
“We have certain adopted decisions on this matter, decisions taken by the President of the Russian Federation and formalized with the relevant documents, we will proceed from them. In addition, of course, in this case, we are guided not by reports from news agencies, but, first of all, by our contacts with our counterparties in India, ”Psekov said during a press call in response to a question from Kommersant FM.

With a request to adhere to the restrictions, according to the agency, officials turned to banks and traders.
From the data of the International Energy Agency, it follows that in 2022, India increased its imports of Russian oil by 16 times compared to the period before February 24. Thus, the country has replaced Europe as the main buyer of oil from Russia, supplied by sea. Russian oil accounts for about a third of India’s total oil imports.
The price ceiling for oil from Russia came into force on December 5. The limits were set at $60 per barrel. In addition, since February 5, price limits have been introduced for Russian oil products at the level of $100 and $45 per barrel (for products that are traded at a premium and a discount to oil, respectively).
