Personal data of ChatGPT users leaked to the network after a failure

OpenAI, the developer of the ChatGPT neural network, reported a leak of user data after an error in the operation of artificial intelligence. An error occurred on Monday, March 20, according to the website of the developer company.

Chatbot users reported outages around 11:50 Moscow time on Monday. The peak of failures occurred at 12.21 Moscow time – the number of complaints exceeded a thousand in the United States alone. Crashes were reported by users in the UK, Canada, and Israel.

“Some users may have seen the first and last names of other active users, as well as their email addresses, billing addresses, the last four digits of (only) credit cards, and their expiration dates,” reads site OpenAI.

Due to a glitch, some of the ChatGPT subscription confirmation emails were sent by the wrong user and contained the last four digits of other users’ credit cards. The leak affected the data of 1.2% of customers. The company called this figure “extremely low.”
