Pellet production in Russia fell by 20% in 2022

The production of pellets (fuel pellets from wood processing waste) in Russia fell by 19.6% in 2022 compared to 2021 to 2.07 million tons. This follows from Rosstat data published on February 1, 2023. At the same time, according to According to the information of the Union of Timber Manufacturers and Exporters based on Rosstat data, the largest drop was observed in the Northwestern Federal District – by 32% to 789,100 tons. And in the Far Eastern Federal District, the production of pellets, on the contrary, increased by 1.5 times to 341,100 tons.

According to the Federal Forest Inventory Roslesinforg, the production of pellets in the Far East increased by about 30% in 2022. The representative of the organization emphasizes that Roslesinforg and Rosstat consider the data of the timber industry complex in different ways.
