In Russia, the production of passenger cars fell to a historic low — 450,000 in 2022

In 2022, 450 thousand cars were produced in Russia (-67% per year). This is the lowest figure in the history of observations.
As follows from the materials of Rosstat, in December 2022, the production of cars increased by 70% compared to March (40.3 thousand cars were produced). Previously, a record low production of cars was recorded in Russia in 2009 against the backdrop of the global financial crisis – then 597 thousand cars were produced.
After the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine in Russia, there is a crisis in the automotive market, which manifests itself in the suspension of the supply of foreign cars and downtime at the enterprises of domestic manufacturers. By evaluation VTB, due to the withdrawal of Western brands from Russia, every second car on the Russian market in 2023 will be Chinese.
