The icon of the Kazan Mother of God, which Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ presented today, is not the prototype that appeared in 1579, but its Moscow copy, the Russian Orthodox Church reported. Since 1918, the Moscow copy of the icon was considered stolen.
“It was this newly revealed icon, as His Holiness the Patriarch said, that was in the militia of Minin and Pozharsky in 1612,” explained the Patriarchate “Interfax” .

The presented Moscow list, according to Patriarch Kirill, was written in the same era in which the Kazan image was created.
Earlier, Patriarch Kirill reported that the found icon will be returned to the Kazan Cathedral on Red Square. She, according to him, was in the patriarchal residence in Peredelkino among other icons – the authenticity of the image was confirmed by art criticism.
