Passenger traffic of Russian air carriers grew by 12% in eight months

Russian airlines carried 70.8 million people in eight months of 2023. Passenger traffic increased by 12% compared to the same period in 2022.

The statistics were published by the deputy head of the Federal Air Transport Agency Vladimir Poteshkin at a meeting with leading Russian airlines. This is stated in the message of the press service of the department, which was received by Kommersant. Mr. Poteshkin thanked the air carriers for organizing the transportation of children this summer and instructed them to analyze the “failure situations that have occurred.”

Representatives of the airlines reported that they are preparing for the winter season. Work is underway to obtain permits from the aviation authorities of foreign states. “The readiness of Russian airlines to carry out flights in the winter season is high, most of them have already started selling air transportation. According to airlines, there is no shortage of carrying capacity to provide tourist destinations in the upcoming season of the schedule of the International Air Transport Association.

The Ministry of Transport previously reported that it expects a passenger traffic of 101 million people or even higher by the end of the year (against 95 million people in 2022). Experts consider this to be feasible, given that in the second half of the year, traffic is usually slightly higher than in the first.
