Foreign investors who sold their business in Russia took $36 billion out of the country in a year. This was announced by the head of the analytical department of the BKF bank Maxim Osadchiy with reference to the data of the Bank of Russia, the message leads “Prime”.
As follows from the data of the Central Bank, from March 2022 to March 2023, 200 transactions were made to sell the assets of companies leaving Russia. Of these, only 20% sold assets worth more than $100 million. According to Mr. Osadchiy, based on the Pareto rule, it can be concluded that during this period, a total of $36 billion worth of capital was withdrawn from the country.
In the materials of the Central Bank, it is noted that in the future the government commission regulating the sale of foreign assets is going to limit the monthly volume of exit of non-residents from Russia. Regulator also arguedthat, on an economic scale, the sale of Russian subsidiaries is small. Only five of the 200 transactions involved actual payments to non-residents of more than $400 million.
