Otkritie Bank withdrew from the capital of Qiwi

Otkritie Bank exited the capital of the Qiwi payment service by selling 21 million class B shares on December 30, 2022. This follows from documentpublished on the website of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Otkrytie owned 34.2% of the group’s capital, or 13.7% of the vote.
The buyer of the block of shares is unknown. Representatives of the “Discovery” reported Forbesthat the bank sold its stake in Qiwi “on market terms”. Details of the transaction in the credit institution did not comment. Forbes, based on Qiwi securities quotes at the close of trading on the Moscow Exchange on December 30, notes that the Otkritie package could be valued at 8.85 billion rubles.
On the bank’s plans to sell a stake in Qiwi informed December 27, 2022 the then chairman of the board of Otkritie Mikhail Zadornov. He admitted that the deal could be implemented in the near future, but did not name specific dates.
In the summer of 2022, the company of the largest shareholder and chairman of the board of directors of QIWI, Sergey Solonin, Dalliance Services Company, offered to buy Qiwi securities from the company’s foreign shareholders at $2.2–2.7 per share. However, Otkritie was sanctioned by the United States and the European Union last spring, which made it difficult for foreign investors to complete the deal.
