Oranges in Russia have risen in price by 71% over the year – Kommersant

In August, consumer prices for oranges increased by 71% compared to the same month in 2022, reports RBC, having analyzed the indicators of Rosstat. The publication notes that this is a record annual increase in prices for this type of fruit.
In addition, for the second month in a row (in July and then in August) oranges are rising in price at a rate above 20% compared to the previous month. This has not happened for the entire period of available statistics – since 2002, the agency notes.
The Bank of Russia reported in August that some imported fruits, in particular oranges, bananas, and pears, rose in price in July due to the weakening ruble. By the end of July, the ruble fell in price against the dollar by 27.7%, against the euro – by 30.8%, the Central Bank noted.
Foreign trade statistics have not been published since 2022. In 2021, Russia imported $314 million worth of oranges. From Egypt – $149 million, from South Africa – $77 million, from Turkey – $56.5 million.
