Most Russian citizens prefer non-cash payments. Only 32% of Russians surveyed always have cash with them. This is stated in a study by the National Financial Research Agency (NAFI) and VSK Insurance House, which leads RBC. For 72% of Russian citizens, the amount of pocket money does not exceed 2,000 rubles.
According to the survey, 68% of respondents use cash payment only if it is not possible to pay for goods by bank card or transfer. In most cases, cash is used when paying for goods in stalls or tents. About 34% of respondents pay in this way. 29% of respondents prefer to pay in cash when paying for public transport. When making payments with a courier, 14% of respondents use cash to leave a tip – 12%.
Towards having money with you Experts divided the Russians surveyed into four groups:
- those who always have cash with them (32% of respondents);
- those who often have cash with them, but may well leave the house without them (31%);
- those who, on the contrary, often go without cash and only occasionally have it with them (30%);
- those who almost never have cash with them (7%).
In 72% of cases, the amount of pocket money Russians have does not exceed 2,000 rubles. At the same time, 31% of Russians usually carry no more than 500 rubles with them, 41% – from 500 rubles. up to 2 thousand rubles They have an amount of more than 2 thousand rubles with them. only 21% of the respondents.
According to the Bank of Russia, in 2022, non-cash payments preferred 81% of bank card holders. Over the year, the indicator increased by 8 p.p. to the maximum in the history of measurements since 2016.
Russians have lost the ability to pay for purchases and services within Russia using Apple Pay and Google Pay contactless payment services after the imposition of sanctions due to the Russian military operations in Ukraine. Visa and Mastercard payment systems cards issued by Russian banks are no longer accepted abroad. They also do not work when paying on the websites of foreign companies.
