The first fully import-substituted analogue of Lastochka, the Finist electric train, will begin operating on routes with passengers tomorrow, December 28, reported in the press service of Russian Railways (RZD).
According to the company, the Finist train meets all modern safety and comfort requirements. It is equipped with domestic traction equipment, allowing it to reach speeds of 160 km/h and effectively use energy during braking, Russian Railways explained.
The first Finist with passengers will depart on the route Yekaterinburg—Kamensk-Uralsky. In total, the Sverdlovsk Railway currently has eight Finists, four more should appear there before the end of the year, Russian Railways said in a statement.
“Finist” will replace the “Lastochka” train, which is built on the basis of the Siemens Desiro electric train. Until May 2022, the trains were serviced by the Russian subsidiary of the German Siemens, but due to sanctions, the company left the Russian market. After Siemens left Russia, the production of trains of this model was suspended.
