Oil service company SLB does not yet intend to leave the Russian market

One of the largest oil service companies SLB (formerly Schlumberger) has not yet made a decision to sell its enterprises in Russia, said Olivier Le Peuch, chief executive officer of the company. He claims that since July 2023, SLB has introduced controls “to prevent and prohibit any supply and support of technology” to Russia. The move, he believes, will in the long term worsen the country’s ability to develop some of its offshore oil fields.

“When we make a decision (on the sale of assets in Russia.— “Ъ”), we will make it public if necessary. The team there works autonomously, and I think to some extent they are behind the scenes. We protect our assets, this is our priority. We protect our people,” Mr. Le Peuch said in an interview with the newspaper. Financial Times.

In January last year, Reuters reported that SLB had increased its presence in Russia after taking over contracts from competitors that had left the country. In May of the same year became knownthat the company has reduced its activities in Russia to maintain its presence in the country.
