From January to September of this year, the United States sold $86 billion worth of oil to world markets. Oil became the country’s main export commodity for the first time since 2009, RIA Novosti reports, citing the US Statistical Service. Petroleum products came second, their supply value decreased by 19%, to $83 billion.
According to the agency’s calculations, third place was taken by aircraft, sales of which abroad increased by 19%, to $81 billion. Gas took fourth place, the cost of its supplies fell by almost a third, to $50 billion. Cars took fifth place (an increase of 11%, up to $48 billion).
From 2009 to 2021, the top two U.S. export lines were aircraft and petroleum products. Airplanes led the way in 2009 and 2010, and throughout 2015–2020. In 2022, oil first displaced airplanes from second place, and this year it has taken first place.
By data US Department of Energy, in September, oil production in the country increased by 1.7%, or 224 thousand barrels per day (b/d), to 13.24 million b/d. This became an absolute monthly record for the United States. Since the beginning of 2022, oil production in the United States has increased by 800 thousand bpd. The country now exports about 4 million barrels per day, which is more than all OPEC+ members except Saudi Arabia.
