NYT: Twitter may start selling usernames

Twitter is developing the ability to organize auctions to sell usernames, said The New York Times (NYT), citing sources. According to the publication, the company hopes that this will allow it to get a new source of income.
Twitter has been in talks to sell usernames since December. The company is discussing holding online auctions where users of the social network will be able to bid on names.
American businessman Elon Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion in October 2022. After the company fired about half of the employees, blocked the accounts of some well-known journalists. Elon Musk also talked about financial problems more than once on Twitter. By counting Forbes, Mr. Musk became the first person to lose $100 billion in one year.
