NOVATEK will build a gas pipeline to Murmansk with a capacity of up to 40 billion cubic meters

The gas pipeline to Murmansk, which will supply the Murmansk LNG plant, as well as the regions in the area where the pipeline passes, will be implemented by NOVATEK (MOEX: NVTK), said the chairman of the company’s board Leonid Mikhelson. According to him, this decision was made by the Russian authorities following several rounds of discussions.
As Mr. Mikhelson clarified, during negotiations on the implementation of the gas pipeline, it was decided to increase the capacity of the future pipeline to 40 billion cubic meters. m. “The gas pipeline capacity was 30 billion cubic meters. m., the decision was revised, and it will be built with a capacity of 40 billion cubic meters. m. This will allow us to satisfy all the needs for additional gas supply,” said the head of NOVATEK on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week forum (quote from TASS).
NOVATEK announced its readiness to implement the Murmansk LNG construction project in June 2023. Leonid Mikhelson noted that Murmansk LNG will be supplied with gas from NOVATEK’s own raw material base in the south of the Gydan Peninsula. The LNG project includes three liquefaction trains with a capacity of 6.8 million tons each. The first two lines of Murmansk LNG can be launched at the end of 2027, the third – at the end of 2029.
