Loading of petroleum products at the NOVATEK terminal in the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad Region has been resumed, Reuters reported, citing industry sources and the LSEG tracking system. Loading was suspended due to a fire following an “external impact.” According to the LSEG service, the tankers Minerva Julie and Chrystal Arctic are currently at the terminal.
A fire at a NOVATEK plant in the port of Ust-Luga occurred on the night of January 21. The technological process at the site was stopped. No harm done. A high alert regime was introduced in the Kingisepp district of the Leningrad region. The cause of the fire was not stated; the company only reported “external influence.” Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov called fire as a consequence of a terrorist attack.
The NOVATEK plant in Ust-Luga processes stable gas condensate into light and heavy naphtha, kerosene, and diesel fraction. Initially, the company built the plant to improve the economics of exporting its own gas condensate, which the company produces in the fields of Western Siberia and Yamal. Processed products are not supplied to the domestic market. The complex also transships stable gas condensate for its subsequent export.
About the consequences of the fire – in the material “Kommersant” “The terminal coped with external influence”.
