Nokia base stations for cellular networks began to be imported to Russia through parallel imports – Kommersant

In mid-May, Makscomm LLC received a certificate of conformity required for the import into Russia of 20,000 Nokia base stations that support various cellular communication standards. It is reported “News” with reference to the materials of the “Unified Register of Certificates of Conformity and Declarations of Conformity”. On April 20, the Makscomm company declared the import to Russia of components for 20 thousand base communication stations of the Swedish Ericsson AB, which officially stopped working in the country a year ago, Kommersant reported.

The materials of Rosakkreditatsiya (maintains the Unified Register of Certificates) say that the equipment was manufactured in Finland, Hungary, Poland, India and other countries. In addition, Makscomm declared the import to Russia of 30,000 radio modules for base stations from a Finnish manufacturer. As a network construction specialist specified to the publication, these radio modules support the LTE standard. According to him, the cost of each of them can vary from 100 thousand to 200 thousand rubles. Thus, the entire batch will cost 2-4 billion rubles.

“This is a set of equipment for Nokia base stations for 2G and LTE, which is completely identical to that already installed in Russian mobile networks. The same equipment was officially imported to Russia between 2019 and 2021. Now it can again be imported into the Russian Federation using parallel imports,” explained Alexander Sivolobov, Deputy Head of the Skoltech-based NTI Competence Center for Wireless Communications and the Internet of Things.

In April, Kommersant’s sources estimated the cost of the batch at $30-40 million. However, experts warned that permission from Ericsson was required to activate the equipment.
