The 2023 Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Jun Fosse misspelled the word “literature”, writes Verdens gang. “In my haste, I made a mistake. Pure typo. Of course, I know perfectly well how to write “literature” in Norwegian,” said Mr. Fosse.

The incident occurred during an event at the Nobel Museum, when Jun Fosse was signing a chair in a restaurant – this is one of the traditions of Nobel celebrations. The writer wrote one letter t instead of a double one, as required by the Norwegian spelling – litteratur.

Yun Fosse explained that many of his correspondences were in English, which is why he made typos. According to the writer, he should have stuck to the Norwegian version of the spelling, since in previous years the laureates signed chairs in their native languages.

The day before, the Nobel Prize ceremony took place in Stockholm. The Peace Prize, for which Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi was nominated, issuedaccording to the rules, in the Norwegian capital Oslo.
