The New People party appealed to the government with a request to cancel VAT on tangerines and Christmas trees due to the sharp rise in price of these goods on the eve of the New Year. Deputy Chairman of the State Duma from “New People” Vladislav Davankov sent a corresponding appeal to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

“I ask you, Mikhail Vladimirovich, to consider the initiative to establish a tax rate for value added tax of 0% on the sale of tangerines and New Year trees, including artificial trees, and if it is supported, I ask you to instruct the relevant executive authorities to implement it,” it says in circulation (Kommersant has the document).

“New People” noticed that, according to Rosstat, at the end of October this year, compared to last year, tangerines had risen in price by more than 80%, and the average price per kilogram, due to the depreciation of the Russian currency, exceeded 200 rubles. Artificial Christmas trees have increased in price by 21% compared to 2022 and by 35% compared to 2021. “New People” believe that the abolition of VAT will reduce the tax burden on entrepreneurs, and will also allow more citizens to purchase tangerines and Christmas trees for the New Year.

According to the Rusprodsoyuz association, a New Year’s table for a family of four this year will cost approximately 5.5 thousand rubles. Compared to last year, food set for the holiday table went up in price by 9.17%. By the end of the year, prices for tangerines, chicken and eggs increased the most.
