According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), streaming service Netflix plans to increase prices for its customers in the coming months after Hollywood screenwriters achieved higher fees and commissions.
Let us recall that at the end of September the screenwriters’ union and representatives of film studios Deal about the end of the writers’ strike, which began in May. The screenwriters agreed to resume work after they achieved increased salaries, fees and commissions from the broadcast of films and TV series, including on streaming services. For large streaming projects, royalties will be increased by 25%. In addition, screenwriters will be paid additional bonuses if a particular project turns out to be popular during the first time after launch.
Now, according to WSJ, Netflix intends to raise tariffs first in the US and Canada, and then in other markets. How much the service will increase prices and when exactly this may happen is still unknown. Netflix itself does not comment on this information. It is noted that over the past year, many streaming services have already increased prices for ad-free tariffs by an average of 25%. Last week, Warner Bros Discovery increased the monthly fee for its ad-free streaming service Discovery+ from $6.99 to $8.99. At the same time, the price for the advertising plan remained unchanged – $4.99 per month.
