Naftogaz of Ukraine ceased to be a supplier of “last hope” – Kommersant

Naftogaz Ukrainy ceased to be the supplier of “last resort” due to the expiration of the period during which the company was obliged to supply consumers left without a supplier. For all other contracts, the company continues to fulfill its obligations.

The supplier of “last resort” is needed to continuously provide consumers with gas in the event of liquidation or bankruptcy of their current supplier. He is obliged to provide consumers with gas for up to 60 days in order to enable them to conclude an agreement with another supplier. The supplier of the “last hope” is approved for three years, Ukrayinska Pravda reported.

On July 22, 2020, the Government of Ukraine designated Naftogaz as the supplier of “last hope”.

“Given the end of the statutory period, starting from July 23, 2023, Naftogaz Ukraine LLC will have no grounds and technical ability to provide consumers of the supplier of the“ last resort ”with the necessary volumes of natural gas,” the company reports.

Naftogaz, as a supplier of “last resort”, supplied gas to more than 9 million households, as well as almost 8 thousand non-residential consumers, including: heat and communal enterprises, as well as those performing vital functions to ensure defense and food security.
