The head of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov held talks in Washington with the American oil companies ExxonMobil and Halliburton. He also met with US officials and members of Congress to rally more political support for US investment in Ukraine’s energy sector. In January, as Mr. Chernyshov said, he also spoke to Chevron management.
“We understand that it is quite difficult for private companies to enter (the market.— “b”) during the war. We are working on an insurance mechanism to protect their capital. Of course, it will take some time,” Mr. Chernyshov said. Financial Times.
According to the Financial Times, the negotiations of the head of the board of Naftogaz became part of Ukraine’s efforts to increase gas production, which, according to Kyiv, could become an alternative to Russia’s for Europe.
Naftogaz hopes to sign a contract with oilfield services company Halliburton, which will increase gas production by about 1 billion cubic meters in 2023, to 13.5 billion cubic meters. “It’s a lot. And for this, we may need a major expansion of the services and technology drivers that Halliburton can provide,” Mr. Chernyshov explained.
Negotiations with oil producers Exxon and Chevron, which do not operate in the country, are at an early stage. Exxon declined to comment, Chevron did not respond to a request.
