Demand for travel insurance almost doubled in the first quarter

According to the results of the first quarter of the year, the demand for travel insurance from Russia abroad almost doubled compared to the same period in 2022. Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia have become the most popular destinations among Russian travelers. According to Sravni, the average cost of insurance was 2.8 thousand rubles. Most often it is bought for a period of 16 to 30 days. Among the most popular destinations for issuing policies are Thailand, the Schengen countries, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Israel, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India.
According to companies’ estimates, the share of those traveling to neighboring countries increased from 10.5% to 12%, to non-CIS countries – from 1.8% to 3.3%. The most popular destinations for foreign trips were Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The share of purchased tickets to European countries decreased from 0.7% to 0.5%.
The share of insurance sales in Russia amounted to 3.2%. In the first quarter, the number of such policies increased by 13% over the same period in 2022. According to Tutu, domestic air travel accounted for 84.2% of air travel demand, up from 87% in the first quarter of last year. “We are talking about the redistribution of the share: the demand has grown both for tickets to the countries of near and far abroad, and for tickets in Russia,” the study says.
