The head of Twitter, Elon Musk, decided to restore the account of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump. He announced this after conducting a survey on the social network. It was attended by 15 million users: 51.8% were in favor of the return of Mr. Trump, 48.2% opposed.
“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated,” Musk tweeted. He added the Latin proverb Vox Populi, Vox Dei (the voice of the people is the voice of God).
Mr. Trump himself said that he was not going to return to Twitter. He wrote on his Truth Social: “Vote positively, but don’t worry, we’re not going anywhere. Truth Social is special.”
Twitter suspended Donald Trump’s account after his supporters stormed the Capitol in early 2021. The former leadership of the social network believed that the tweets of the 45th President of the United States could encourage people to riot.
Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion at the end of October. After that, the company fired half of the employees. The billionaire promised to loosen the rules of moderation and revise user verification.
