Soviet and Russian musicologist and jazz specialist Vladimir Feyertag died in St. Petersburg at the age of 93. St. Petersburg musician and son of the deceased Alexei Popov reported this on social networks. Later information about the death of the musicologist “Kommersant-SPb” confirmed the founder and artistic director of the Philharmonic of Jazz Music, David Goloshchekin.

“Three weeks ago he performed at my concert at the Philharmonic of Jazz Music, standing next to me on stage. He was an outstanding person in terms of popularizing jazz, a wonderful musicologist and critic, an excellent writer,” noted Mr. Goloshchekin.

Vladimir Feyertag taught at the Leningrad Music School, organized jazz concerts and trips of Russian musicians to Europe and the USA. He is also the author of the brochure “Jazz,” which became the first book about this musical genre in Russian.
