The company is accused of allowing thousands of copyright infringements: Twitter allows you to publish any music without a proper license. The lawsuit is about “countless copies of musical compositions.”
The US National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA), which includes Sony Music Publishing, BMG Rights Management and Universal Music Publishing Group, is seeking $250 million in damages for 1,700 copyright infringements.
According to NMPA President David Israelit, Twitter remains the only social network that has refused to license millions of songs. It appears from the lawsuit that other major platforms, including TikTok and YouTube, properly acquire music licenses.
The lawsuit also says that after the arrival of Elon Musk, Twitter began a “mess” in legal matters.
