MTS will restart the column project with a voice assistant

MTS is working on its own voice assistant and expects to release a column with its support, said the company’s president Vyacheslav Nikolaev. This is the company’s first such announcement since the release of a test batch of “smart” speakers with Marvin assistant in 2020.

“Firstly, I don’t doubt for a second that we will have a voice assistant. It will live in many surfaces: both in a column and in a call center,” said Mr. Nikolaev at an event dedicated to rebranding MTS.

MTS first announced plans to release its “smart” column at the end of 2019: in the same year, similar devices were introduced by Yandex and Mail.ru Group (current VK). Assistant “Marvin” was introduced in June 2020. It was available on a mobile app of the same name and a limited-edition “smart” speaker for employees and selected customers of the company. In January 2021, Arkady Sandler, Director of the MTS Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center, who oversaw the development of Marvin, left company. Since then, MTS has not presented any developments in this area. The Marvin app is no longer available in stores, and since November 2021, the owners of the original column have been writing on specialized forums about its inoperability.
