Moldova declared independence from Russian gas

Moldova has ceased to be dependent on Russian gas, fuel for the right bank of the Dniester is purchased from the state company Energocom. This was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic Andrei Spinu.

“For the first time in the history of our country, the right bank will not consume gas supplied by Gazprom. Since last year, we have promised that we will make reserves and find alternatives in order to stop depending on one source. We managed to do it,” Mr. Spinu wrote in his Telegram.

According to the decision of the Commission for Emergency Situations (CES), Moldovagaz will purchase about 100 million cubic meters of gas from the state-owned Energocom in December. m of gas at a preliminary average price of $1,108.61 per 1,000 cubic meters. m. This price includes all costs: the cost of buying gas, transportation costs and storage costs incurred by Energocom, the Deputy Prime Minister assured.

The tariff, according to him, for citizens will not change. The Moldovan government continues to increase gas reserves for the coming months, Andrei Spinu added.

In 2021 Moldovagaz renegotiated contract for the supply of Russian gas for five years, until 2026. At the beginning of this winter, Mr. Spinu declaredthat since December, right-bank Moldova has temporarily refused gas supplies from Russia. The entire volume of Russian gas will go to Pridnestrovie.
