Moldova confirmed consultations with the ex-head of Naftogaz on the debt to Gazprom

The administration of Moldovan President Maia Sandu confirmed that the ex-chairman of the board of Naftogaz, Andrei Kobolev, advised the government on issues of debt to Gazprom. Moldovan authorities deny that Mr. Kobolev was appointed as an adviser to the president, a local publication reports NewsMaker.
The presidential administration said that Andrei Kobolev advises the Ministry of Energy of Moldova on issues related to the audit of Moldovagaz. The authorities believe that his experience is useful, since Naftogaz, which he headed from 2014 to 2021, was able to sue about $4.6 billion from Gazprom.
As Kommersant learned, the Moldovan authorities offered Gazprom to enter into a settlement agreement, according to which the Russian company and its structures would write off the debts of Moldovagaz. It is expected that in return Chisinau will guarantee the absence of lawsuits in connection with a reduction in supplies by $160 million, and will also pay Gazprom $153.57 million in compensation.
