The story follows Mahito, a boy who deeply misses his mother. He decides to go on a dangerous journey into a mysterious world, where difficult trials, but also new opportunities, await him.
Hayao Miyazaki, an 83-year-old director, is known for films such as Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Whisper of the Heart, Laputa Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro.
His film Spirited Away also won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. In 2014, Miyazaki received an honorary Oscar for his contribution to world animation.
This year, the following films were nominated for the Oscar in the best animation category: “Elemental” (2023), “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” (2023), “ Cherished Desire” (Wish, 2023) and “Nimona” (Nimona, 2023).
