“Mir” cards in Venezuela can only be used through Central Bank terminals

The Mir payment system began operating throughout Venezuela. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak following the 17th meeting of the intergovernmental commission of Russia and Venezuela. According to him, more than 80 thousand terminals for accepting Mir cards have been installed in the country.

For now, these cards can only be used through Bank of Venezuela terminals, Chairman of the Central Bank of the Republic Calixto Jose Ortega Sanchez clarified to TASS. “For now, cards can only be used in Bank of Venezuela terminals, and we are striving to ensure that these terminals are located in tourist areas,” he assured.

As Mr. Novak added, the volume of bilateral trade between the Russian Federation and Venezuela has increased by 77% over the past five years. He added that in order to intensify cooperation among business circles and promote business initiatives, the possibility of creating a Russian-Venezuelan Business Council is being considered.

World cards started taking in the terminals of trade and service enterprises in Venezuela in June. In July It was given start of accepting payments using Mir cards on the Venezuelan island of Margarita.

In August, several banks in Vietnam started accept Mir cards. In Myanmar calculated start accepting these cards in October. Central Bank of the Russian Federation saidwhich plans to roll out “World” cards to five to six new countries in 2023.
