The Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation did not confirm the data leak from the subordinate scientific research institute Voskhod, TASS reports. Information about the leak from the institute appeared today, March 6, in the Telegram channel “Earlier than anyone else. Almost”. It was reported that biometric characteristics of citizens of the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan and Belarus got into the network. The database was allegedly downloaded and leaked to the Internet by a fired employee.
FGAU Research Institute “Voskhod” is the leading institute in the field of system integration for the development and implementation of large federal and departmental automated information systems (including special-purpose ones), indicated on the website of the Ministry of Digital Development. Among the projects of the research institute is a system of passport and visa documents of a new generation, an information system for controlling the circulation of weapons and managing security services of the National Guard, the state automated system “Elections”, etc.
In January, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed government until July 1 to consider establishing turnover fines for companies that have leaked customer personal data. Meanwhile, the victims of the leaks themselves are beginning to actively defend their rights.
