The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia stated that enough tinplate is produced in the country. It is used for the production of tin containers and lids. Earlier, Europe banned the export of tinplate to Russia as part of sanctions in response to the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine. the day before RBC said that State Duma deputy Sergei Lisovsky (United Russia) sent an appeal to Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade, with a request to increase state support for tinplate producers, since, in his opinion, this product is not enough in the Russian Federation.
“The information that tinplate is not produced in Russia is not true. The Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works is operating at 100% capacity utilization, which made it possible to produce 175,000 tons of tinplate in 2021 (7,000 tons more than last year). This year, the enterprise maintains the momentum of production, for the first half of the year 89.5 thousand tons have already been produced, ”the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade said in a statement (quoted from TASS).
The press service added that Belarus, China and Kazakhstan continue to supply tinplate to Russia. They noted that, if necessary, the Miory Metal Rolling Plant in Belarus could increase production volumes.
As Mr. Lisovsky stated, as a result of the shortage of tinplate in Russia, there was a risk of stopping the production of baby food, as the companies used European raw materials.
