Nikita Mikhalkov: The acting level in Russia has fallen catastrophically

In Russia, the acting level has fallen catastrophically. There is no analogue in the country to the Italian film actor Marcello Mastroianni and the Frenchman Jean-Louis Trintignant. This statement was made by Soviet and Russian film director and producer Nikita Mikhalkov.

In conversation with the publication “AiF in Tula” he stated that this trend is observed everywhere. According to Mikhalkov, his academy of theater arts receives 470-500 applications; only actors who have a profession can get there.

“This is a kind of advanced training. Of those who come, we accept thirteen people. Seven reach the end, and they take one to our theater,” noted the Russian film director.

Nikita Mikhalkov noted that currently media fame is earned in a different way and the actor is afraid of losing it. According to him, having gained popularity in some project, actors become hostages, and “they can’t shave off their beard.”

“To play in such a way that they don’t even recognize you as an actor is also very scary, and very few people can do it. I’m not even talking about what he wants,” the director concluded.
