The American company Microsoft has limited access to updating the Windows operating system for Russian citizens. Users cannot upgrade Windows 10 PCs to Windows 11.
On the official website of the company, when trying to download the downloader for the latest version of Windows, an empty browser window opens. In the “installation and updates” section, the section with the updated version of the operating system is also not available.
September 23 Prime Minister of Russia obliged Ministry of Digital Development to prepare a draft on the predominant use of Russian software until November 2022. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the initiative. However, the government noted that until competitive analogues appear in the country, the use of existing foreign software will continue.
According to Kommersant, over the past few months, developers, the Ministry of Digital Development and the Ministry of Education have been discussing the possibility of a centralized replacement of Windows and office packages from Microsoft with Russian counterparts, for example, Linux in educational institutions.
