Meta plans to introduce advertising-free Instagram fees for European users – Kommersant

According to Financial Times And The Wall Street Journalwhich cite their sources, Meta Corporation (recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned.— “Ъ”) plans to introduce a $14 per month fee for European users on its Instagram service if they want to use the social network without advertising on their smartphones. Users can continue to use the service for free, but will then be shown personalized advertising.

It is also reported that Meta will introduce another paid plan – $17 per month, under which users will be able to use Facebook (also owned by Meta) and Instagram without advertising, but in the PC version.

It is reported that Meta will take these measures in response to the demands of the European Commission, which in December 2022 obliged to request users’ consent to show them targeted advertising. According to the WSJ, Meta representatives notified regulators in Ireland, where the headquarters of the Internet corporation is registered, as well as regulators in Brussels about their plans in September. It is reported that new conditions called SNA (subscription no ads) will be introduced for European users in the coming months.
