Yandex co-founder Arkady Volozh asked the European Union to lift the sanctions imposed against him last summer. About this with reference to sources informed newspaper Financial Times (FT).

The lawyers of the businessman, as noted in the article, asked the EU to remove restrictions from Volozh a few days after the statement, where he opposed the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine. According to the FT, officials will consider the appeal of the Yandex co-founder next month. Volozh himself declined to comment on his request to lift the sanctions.

On August 10, the founder of Yandex distributed a letter in which he expressed his disagreement with the Russian special operation in Ukraine and explained his departure from the company. The entrepreneur clarified that he has not lived in Russia since 2014 and his story with Yandex ended in February 2022. Now he supports Russian engineers who left the country, the statement said.

In June 2022, the EU imposed restrictions on Volozh as part of the sixth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. After that, Yandex reported that the co-founder of the company left the board of directors and the post of CEO of the Yandex group of companies, and also left senior positions in the international subsidiaries of the group.
