India buys first batch of uranium from Russia since 2019 for $13.5 million – Kommersant

In June, Russia delivered the first batch of uranium ore to India since 2019, according to data from the Indian Ministry of Trade and Industry, which was analyzed by RIA Novosti. The cost of the batch is estimated at $13.5 million. The volume of uranium ore purchased by India amounted to 118 tons.
India last bought uranium ore from Russia in 2019. Then, in twelve months, 1.77 thousand tons of uranium worth $101.6 million were exported.
According to the World Nuclear Association, Russia is in sixth place in the list of countries for the production of fuel uranium. Two-thirds of the world’s uranium production comes from Kazakhstan, Namibia and Canada.
In the first half of 2023, according to RIA Novosti, Russia has 416 tons of uranium bought USA. Compared to the indicators for the same period in 2022, the volume of deliveries increased by 2.2 times and became the highest since 2005.
At the same time, in 2022, the United States reduced the purchase of uranium raw materials from Russia by 24% year-on-year, to 4.78 million pounds of U3O8-equivalent. The decrease in deliveries, according to analysts, could be due to a sharp rise in prices and the specifics of shipment schedules for long-term contracts. The US authorities believe that they are bearing the costs due to excessive dependence on nuclear fuel from Russia.
