The combined wealth of the 400 richest American multi-billionaires, according to Forbes, grew by $500 billion over the year, reaching $4.5 trillion. Annual rating publication published on your website.
Forbes attributes this dynamics to the recovery of stock markets and the technology boom caused by AI. When preparing the rating, the publication calculated the net worth of billionaires based on the value of shares as of September 8.
The ranking was topped, as it was a year ago, by the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk. His fortune did not change over the year and amounted to $251 billion. The second place was taken by the founder of Amazon and the leader of this rating in 2018-2021. Jeff Bezos with a fortune of $161 billion (+$10 billion), and the third is Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison with $158 billion (+$57 billion). The top five also included Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett with $121 billion (+$24 billion) and Google co-founder Larry Page with $114 billion (+$21 billion).
The size of the minimum fortune to be included in the rating increased over the year from $2.7 billion to $2.9 billion, but despite this, there were 18 newcomers in it, Forbes notes, among whom, for example, there is basketball player Michael Jordan with $3 billion. He became the first a professional athlete ranked in the top 400. And among those dropped from the ranking was former US President Donald Trump.
The publication also notes that 279 (70%) of the list participants did not inherit, but earned their fortune on their own. The share of women on the list is only 15%.
Earlier in June Bloomberg reportedthat Musk, against the backdrop of rising Tesla shares, again took first place in the list of the richest people in the world, overtaking the owner of the LVMH holding Bernard Arnault. Elon Musk first became the richest person in the world in January 2021. At that time, his wealth exceeded $200 billion, and in early November 2021 it peaked at $340 billion.
