The American company Tesla is negotiating to build a battery production plant in India. writes Reuters citing sources.

Representatives of the technology company held meetings in New Delhi, where they invited Indian officials to “support the country’s battery capabilities” with its Powerwall batteries.

Indian officials did not agree to participate in the creation of the enterprise, but offered government assistance in creating a business model for the company. In particular, the Indian side offered subsidies to those buying Tesla products.

The founder and head of Tesla, Elon Musk, spoke about the likelihood of the plant’s appearance in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. He noted that India could become “an interesting place for the company to build a new plant abroad.”

In the summer, the media wrote that Tesla had sent a proposal to the Indian government to locate production of its cars in the country. As The Times of India wrote, the company proposed building a plant that would produce 500,000 electric vehicles per year, and their minimum price would be about $25,000.

On September 14, Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyusha Goyal announced that Tesla plans to increase purchases of components for cars to $1.9 billion. Last year, according to the minister, the company purchased parts worth $1 billion.
