Companies that work in the taxi industry should buy cars from domestic manufacturers. This statement was made by the Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko.
“Of course, it is necessary that the regions and businesses buy domestically produced cars, thus there will be high-quality service, service,” she said (quote according to TASS). Matvienko noted that in the current conditions it is worth supporting Russian automakers.
The Chairman of the Federation Council added that she supported the amendment, which would allow the Cabinet of Ministers to establish requirements for the level of localization in the territory of the Russian Federation of the production of cars that are used as taxis. This initiative was not included in the final version of the Taxi Regulation Act. According to Matvienko, in the future, the Federation Council needs to prepare this amendment.
On December 23, the Federation Council approved a law regulating the operation of taxis. The document contains regulations regarding the requirements for the driver, as well as the external and internal appearance of the car. In particular, a person who has more than three unpaid fines for violating traffic rules and who has been repeatedly deprived of his license within one year cannot work as a taxi driver.
The law also establishes that the car must have a color scheme on the body, which is a “composition of squares of a contrasting color arranged in a checkerboard pattern” (“checkers”). It is proposed to install an orange lamp on the roof of the car. In addition, there should be information about the driver in the cabin.
Also, according to the document, it is planned to create regional taxi registries. Cities of federal significance (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sevastopol) can now set a minimum fare for the transportation of passengers and luggage by passenger taxis.
