American actor Jonathan Majors was fired from Marvel Studios after a court found him guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, reports The New York Times (NYT).
Prosecutors say Majors attacked his girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, in a car in March, leaving her with a broken finger and injuries to her arm and ear. The actor did not admit his guilt, and his lawyers argued that Jabbari attacked him first.
Despite the defense’s arguments, the jury found the actor guilty of third-degree assault and stalking, but he was acquitted of other charges. He will be sentenced on February 6 and Majors faces up to a year in prison.
Immediately after this decision, a representative from Marvel Studios (a division of Walt Disney) stated that they would stop collaborating with the actor on future projects. According to company spokeswoman Angela Shaw, the studio will continue to work on the new Avengers film without Majors’ participation.
