Marketplaces recorded an increase in sales of old books – Kommersant

Sales of old books in the first half of 2023 increased by 38% compared to the same period last year, and demand for online services increased by 24%, according to marketplace data reviewed by Kommersant. Interest in old publications was provoked by the rise in price of new books against the backdrop of an increase in the cost of printing and materials.
According to the Ozon marketplace, the growth in sales of used books in the first half of the year was 38% in units, 52% in money, and the assortment in the segment itself grew by 43%. On Wildberries, sales of second-hand books in pieces increased by 300% in nine months. Ozon and Wildberries did not specify absolute figures.
Avito did not provide data on the segment, but noted that the growth in sales of used books as a whole in the first half of the year amounted to 24% year-on-year. At the same time, the demand for new books increased by 28%. However, the largest share of sales is taken up by already “read” books, the company confirmed.
