The American company Mondelez International (manufacturer of Milka chocolate, Alpen Gold and Oreo cookies) refused to supply its goods to the stores of the Russian hypermarket chain Lenta at the proposed purchase prices. RIA Novosti and TASS reported this in the retailer’s press service in response to a request about the loss of Mondelez products from the range.

“As a result of negotiations, our partners decided to refuse supplies at the proposed purchase prices, which would be beneficial to our customers,” reported the Lenta press service. The company noted that a small amount of products still remains on the shelves of some stores in the chain.

Mondelez owns the brands 7Days, Alpen Gold, Barni, BelVita, Halls, LU, Milka, Oreo, Toblerone, Tuc. The company operates in 160 countries around the world. Its business in Europe is divided into 14 commercial divisions. In Russia, the company owns three factories – the Bolshevik plant, as well as enterprises in Pokrov and Veliky Novgorod.

Following the entry of Russian troops into Ukraine in March 2022, Mondelez suspended advertising and investment in Russian business, but did not stop working. Because of the refusal to leave Russia, the Ukrainian authorities turned on Mondelez to the list of international war sponsors. At the end of 2022, Mondelez’s profit in Russia amounted to $339 million. In its 2023 report, Mondelez stated that its business in Russia is “more profitable than ever before.” Specific data on the company’s income were not included in the report.
